The Laves phases, a family of AB 2 -type intermetallic compounds, have attracted considerable attention in the fields of solid state chemistry and materials science. In this study, we synthesized a series of over-stoichiometric hexagonal Laves TiFe 2 Mn x (0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) compounds using a supercritical quenching method, specifically by quenching from a high-temperature near melting point (T m ). Neutron powder diffraction (NPD) studies reveal that the excess Mn atoms occupy both the Ti and Fe sites. Magnetic measurement demonstrates that these compounds display multiple magnetic states ranging from antiferromagnetic order (x = 0), mixed antiferromagnetic−ferromagnetic order (x ≤ 0.3), to pure ferromagnetic order (0.3 < x < 0.4). Interestingly, a spin glass state emerges in the Mn-rich region (0.4 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) below the frozen temperature. A detailed analysis using NPD, ac magnetic susceptibility, and isothermal remanent magnetization (IRM) relaxation measurements demonstrated that spin glass may originate from magnetic frustration interaction among the Mn moment in the A-layer and Mn/Fe moment at the B layer (Kagome layer). Our work broadens the pathway for synthesizing new magnetic functional materials in nonstoichiometric compounds.

In this manuscript, the magnetic and magnetocaloric properties of the MnNi compound are investigated using Monte Carlo simulations and first‐principles calculations. Initially, the electronic, structural, and magnetic characteristics of the alloy are explored. The findings indicate that the ferromagnetic state in the Fm (No. 216) structure, with an optimal lattice parameter of 5.88 Å, was the most stable state compared to nonmagnetic (NM) and antiferromagnetic (AFM) states. Phonon dispersion studies confirm the alloy's dynamic stability, while the density of states reveal metallic behavior at the Fermi level. The total magnetic moment is calculated to be 3.48 . Additionally, exchange interactions are computed for Monte Carlo simulations, predicting a Curie temperature () of 331 K, consistent with experimental measurements ( = 330 K). Furthermore, the alloy exhibited a relative cooling power (RCP) of 1133.16 J kg−1 and a magnetocaloric effect of 19.65 J kg−1 K−1 at an applied magnetic field of 5 T. These results indicate that the MnNi full‐Heusler alloy is a potential option for use in magnetic refrigeration applications.
