Effect of cold Ar plasma treatment on the catalytic performance of Pt/CeO2 in water-gas shift reaction (WGS)

Abstract: The effect of Ar plasma treatment on the catalytic performance of Pt/CeO 2 has been studied. The catalyst was activated using different procedures separately or in combination: calcination, reduction under pure H 2 and cold Ar plasma treatment. The resulting materials were characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray adsorption near edge structure and temperature-programmed reduction with H 2. The resulting materials were tested in the water-gas shift reaction (WGS). It has been found that the comb… Show more

“…WGS reaction was a main way for industrial H 2 production [193][194][195][196][197][198][199]. For the traditional WGS reaction, high temperatures and high pressures were essential, and H 2 contamination containing CO 2 , CH 4 and residual CO was inevitable [200][201][202][203][204].…”

“…22 In order to enhance VLPCR performance through a SPR effect, the physico-chemical structure of the semiconductors is another crucial aspect that needed to be considered. Among the common semiconductors, CeO 2 has been thoroughly investigated for various heterogeneous catalytic reactions, including de-NO x , water-gas shi reactions, CO oxidation, and photocatalysis [23][24][25][26] owing to its abundance of surface oxygen defects and convenient morphology control. Microstructured-CeO 2 or its composites (e.g., Pd/CeO 2 ) with various morphologies such as spherical, 27 cubic, 28 ower-like, 29 and coralloid 30 morphology have been reported.…”

“…The energetic species in discharge stroke and etched the catalyst surfaces, scattered Pt particles from agglomerated Pt, and produced small particles. Laura et al [16] proposed that the plasma might generate electron-enriched Pt particles, which could interact with the ceria support strongly. Highly dispersed Pt particles were conducive to interactions with active supports.…”
