Effect of cold atmospheric plasma treatment on hydrophilic properties of fluorosilicone rubber

Abstract: Vulcanized fluorosilicone rubber for aviation was treated by argon and oxygen cold atmospheric plasma (CAP) in order to modify its hydrophilic properties. The sample's chemical composition was analyzed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The static contact angle, surface free energy, and adhesion strength were used to indicate the hydrophilic properties. Additionally, the surface morphologies of the specimens were observed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The resu… Show more

“…Over the past decade, plentiful lowtemperature APPs have been industrialized, including corona discharge, plasma torch, dielectric barrier discharge, and other plasma jets. [9][10][11][12] The use of APPs is a promising procedure for thin film deposition. This procedure involves feeding organic monomers into glow discharge and chemically forming organic/inorganic thin films onto various substrate surfaces.…”

“…In addition to the thermal oxidation of silicon, low‐temperature atmospheric‐pressure plasmas (APPs) can be utilized, instead of expensive and complicated vacuum systems, to fabricate various films. Over the past decade, plentiful low‐temperature APPs have been industrialized, including corona discharge, plasma torch, dielectric barrier discharge, and other plasma jets 9–12 . The use of APPs is a promising procedure for thin film deposition.…”

“…One of the potential methods of improving the properties between NBR5080 and PTFE is to modify the surface of NBR5080 and PTFE so as to satisfy the requirement under hot‐temperature RP‐3 aviation kerosene. Among numerous approaches of surface treatment, cold plasma treatment has attracted much attention in recent years . Cold plasma method has several advantages such as high efficient and environmentally friendly .…”

“…to exploit the usefulness of atmospheric pressure plasmas, including dielectric barrier discharge, plasma spray, corona discharge, plasma torch, and atmospheric pressure plasma jet. [1][2][3] To enhance the effectiveness of atmospheric pressure plasma techniques, increasing the volume of the glow discharge or extending the discharge gap are two methods that have been extensively investigated, because they render atmospheric pressure plasmas more applicable for a multitude of uses. 4,5 The dimension of the plasma source used greatly impacts the efficiency of the treatment and the final surface properties of the substrate.…”
