Effect of Green Tea and Vitamin E Combination in Isoproterenol Induced Myocardial Infarction in Rats

Abstract: The present study was aimed to investigate the combined effects of green tea and vitamin E on heart weight, body weight, serum marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation, endogenous antioxidants and membrane bound ATPases in isoproterenol (ISO)-induced myocardial infarction in rats. Adult male albino rats, treated with ISO (200 mg/kg, s.c.) for 2 days at an interval of 24 h caused a significant (P<0.05) elevation of heart weight, serum marker enzymes, lipid peroxidation and Ca+2 ATPase level whereas there was a signif… Show more

“…Yet, the myofilaments preserved their normal arrangement and regular appearance of sarcomeres and regular rows of intact mitochondria in between myofibrils. Similar to our findings, Upaganlawar et al [28] , reported that vit E could only at a dose of 100 mg/kg restore the ISO-altered hemodynamic parameters such as serum lactate dehydrogenase, serum aspartate transaminase and serum alanine transaminase levels, in addition to different markers of oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation.…”

“…Alike Upaganlawar et al [28] , proposed that the increase of the heart weight upon administration of ISO might be due the increased water content and oedematous intramuscular spaces. Asdaq et al [29] added that ISOinduced alterations of the membrane permeability might have brought loss of myocardial membrane function which could be another cause of the interstitial edema in experimental rats.…”

“…MDA is a main end product of lipid peroxidation; raised MDA value may help to increased production of free radicals and/or reduced activities of antioxidant defense system [30]. In the current study, treatment with ISO caused in significant raise in peroxidation of lipids, represented as MDA value, which is in same direction with former reports [26,31]. Citrus aurantium pre-cotreatment displayed an important decrease in the value of serum MDA content which can be related to strong antioxidant capacity of extract against ISO auto-oxidation produced free radicals.…”

“…Cardiac muscle contains different diagnostic markers of MI and when heart metabolism injured, it discharges its contents into the extracellular fluid [26]. Cytotoxic enzymes such as CK-MB, LDH, AST, ALT and ALP, which serve as diagnostic markers, could be released from tissues damaged in the circulation due to permeable or disagreement of cell membrane and reflect the changes in plasma membrane integrity [27].…”

“…High dose of isoproterenol (ISO), a 毬 -adrenergic agonist, has been reported to induce MI in experimental animals which is confirmed by hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, increase in cardiac marker enzymes, hemodynamic changes, biochemical alterations and generation of oxidative stress [3][4][5] .…”
