Effect of Hammer Type on Generated Mechanical Signals in Impact-Echo Testing

Abstract: The impact-echo diagnostic method is a well-known nondestructive pulse compression test method, which can be relatively easily used for the testing of concrete and reinforced concrete elements. The evaluation of the measurement with this method is based on the analysis of the signal itself in the time and frequency domains. This allows acquisition of information on the velocity of the mechanical wave, the resonant frequency of the specimen or on the presence of internal defects. The ability to interpret these … Show more

“…The algorithm itself was first published by Saaty [ 28 ]. The method was first published in 2021 [ 29 ] in the form of using this tool to evaluate frequency peaks. If the evaluated parameters are close to the desired value, the value of the score will be higher.…”

“…The principle of the impact echo method is to generate low frequency stress waves by transient impact on the concrete surface, when the stress wave propagation encounters defects, boundaries, etc. will be reflected, using the time domain or frequency domain analysis method to analyse the received stress wave signal, you can obtain the depth and thickness of the defects existing inside the measured concrete structure [8]. DG Aggelis [9] use of time domain characteristics, spectral content and wavelet transform reveal the effectiveness of grouting.…”

“…On the plot of crest factor and signalto-noise ratio (SNR), a shift in SNR in dB between the classes can be distinguished, signaling that this region is diverse enough for a classification model. The description of the used algorithm to retrieve the features from the signals was described in past publications [43,67]. Features consist of statistical variables such as root mean square, signal-to-noise ratio, crest factor, or energy of the signal.…”
