Effect of Integrated Nutrients Management with Plant Growth Retardant on Flower Quality and Economics of African Marigold (Tagetes erecta L.) cv. Pusa Narangi Gainda

Abstract: Marigold is one of the most important commercial flower crops grown all over the world and in India as well; accounting for more than half of Nation"s loose flower production. It is native of central and South America especially Mexico and belongs to the family Asteraceae (Compositae). There are 33 species of genus tagetes in which few are important viz., Tagetes erecta, T. patula ,T. tenuifolia, T. luicida (sweet scented marigold), T. sarmetosa (climbing marigold), T. lacera, T. lemmmoni, T. minuta, T. filifo… Show more

“…PSB possess the ability to bring sparingly insoluble inorganic or organic phosphates into soluble form by secreting organic acids which can also contribute to improving flower diameter. Similar findings were reported by Kumar et al, (2009), Thumar et al, (2013) and Patel et al, (2017) in African marigold. Ultimately they resulted in better sink for faster mobilization of photosynthates.…”

“…Ultimately they resulted in better sink for faster mobilization of photosynthates and early transformation of plant parts from vegetative to reproductive phase. Similar findings have been reported by Thumar et al, (2013) in marigold and Naik et al, (2014) in carnation. Increased flower diameter might be due to combined effect of organic and inorganic fertilizers.…”

“…It may be due to presence of existent growth promoting substances like essential plant nutrients, enzymes vitamins, and antibiotics in vermicompost and vermiwash. Present findings are in similar with reported by Kumar and Vishwanath [15], Sudhagar et al [19] in African marigold and Bohra et al [18].…”

“…Increase in duration of flowering might be due to mobilization of nutrients, increase in synthesis of proteins and degradation of chlorophyll prevention due to sufficient amount of nutrients supplied by the vermicompost and vermiwash. This finding is in conformity with Kumar et al, [14], Kumar and Vishwanath [15], Mittal et al, [16] in Marigold, Bordoloi and Madhumita Choudhury Talukdar in Chrysanthemum [13], Pandey et al [17], (2017) in Dhalia. Application of Poultry manure@ 2.5t/ha in combination with Fermented Mustard oil Cake spraying @ 3% increased the flower diameter due to availability of sufficient macro and micro nutrients supplied by poultry manure which ultimately resulted in vigorous growth of plants.…”
