Effect of joint configuration on resistance spot weldability of galvanised DP780 steel sheets

Abstract: A 780 MPa galvanised dual phase (DP) steel was two-, three-and four-layer resistance spot welded under different welding parameters and joint configurations. The splash situation, nugget sizes and tensile shear properties of the spot welds were evaluated systematically. The results showed that the splash occurring current increased in the order of two-, three-and four-layer spot welds owing to the increasing metal volume for melting. The joint configuration had a great influence on the tensile shear properties… Show more

“…Only Pouranvari and Marashi 16 studied the mechanical properties of three-sheet drawing quality special killed (DQSK) steel for different lap sequences. Wei et al 17 studied the effect of the joint configuration on the resistance spot weldability of DP 780 steel sheets. It is widely recognised that metallurgical and hardness characteristics of the welds strongly affect the mechanical properties and failure behaviour of RSW joints.…”

“…The good weld qualities for three & four-layer spot welds were observed as compared to the two-layer welds. 19 Hongbo et al., observed the numerical study and the effects of microstructural incompatabilities and chemical behavior on mechanical properties of DP780 steel. In this study he carried out the test with dual phase 780 steel to investigate the ferrite grain average diameter, martensite volume fraction & chemical behavior.…”
