Effect of Leptin Gene Polymorphism on Reproductive Efficiency in Awassi Ewes

Abstract: L EPtin (LEP) is a protein release mostly from adipose tissue (the major source of LEP) (Houseknecht et al., 1998). It consists of 146 amino acids with molecular weight 16000 Dalton (Zhang et al., 1994). Chromosome four is containing the ovine LEP gene (Moravcikova et al., 2012). It's included two introns and three exons, the last two exons are involved in LEP protein synthesis (167 amino acids) which is undergo cleavage of 21 amino acid (signal peptide) (De La et al., 1996; Zhang et al., 1994). LEPtin recepto… Show more

“…Two SNPs in the exon 3 and intron 2 of LEP gene and their associations with milk traits were investigated by Kulig and Kmiec (2009) and it has been stated that LEP gene variations significantly affect milk, protein, and fat yield. Effects of LEP gene polymorphisms on reproductive efficiency in Awassi ewes was revealed by using DNA sequencing method and it was found significant associations between litter size and LEP polymorphisms (Younis et al 2019). 1).…”

“…Passos et al [50] described effect of leptin polymorphism on its expression on adipose tissues in beef cattle, when frequency of A allele was 0.91 and B allele was 0.09. Moreover, this polymorphism was associated with energy balance and fertility [50], milk yield [51,52] and somatic cell count in milk [53] and reproductive efficiency [54].…”

“…Nevertheless, no studies addressed the association between LEP gene polymorphisms and prolificacy traits in rabbits. On the other hand, the LEP gene polymorphism was associated with litter size in pigs (Chen et al, 2004 ; Terman, 2005 ; Wang et al, 2011 ), goats (Wang et al, 2011 ; Alim et al, 2019 ), sheep (Mahmoud et al, 2014 ; Younis et al, 2019 ), as well as the association with reproductive performance in cows (Chebel and Santos, 2011 ; Trakovická et al, 2013 ).…”
