Effect of manufacturing processes on the natural frequency, surface roughness and dimensional tolerances of GCI brake discs
Samuel A. Awe
Abstract:Automotive component manufacturing involves various processes that can affect the performance of components. Cast articles, such as brake rotors made from gray cast iron (GCI), often have residual stresses owing to cooling variations during solidification. These stresses can cause significant material property degradation and compromise geometric tolerance requirements. Residual stresses can distort GCI rotors during machining and FNC processing when the rotors are heated above the stress-relief temperature, r… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
