“…As the mixing ratio of microalgae to sweet sorghum increased from 0 to 3%, the lactic acid concentration increased ( P < 0.05) on average from 84.9 g kg −1 DM of the control silage to 93.2 g kg −1 DM of M3 silage. This observation is consistent with the findings of Li et al ., who reported that microalgae addition influenced the composition of the microbial community of Manyflower silvergrass silage, leading to an increase in the relative abundance of Lactobacillus during the ensiling process, thus improving the efficiency of lactic acid production in Manyflower silvergrass silage. In this study the pH was higher ( P < 0.05) in PECR‐treated silages than in the control silage despite more lactic acid production.…”

“…More recently, benefits of using either whole C. vulgaris microalga or PCER have been studied as potential CP supplements for silage preservation, and grazing ruminants consuming low‐CP forage. Li et al . reported that the C. vulgaris microalgae supplementation lowered the pH value and elevated lactic acid and CP concentrations of Manyflower silvergrass silage.…”

“…For sequencing, the 16S rRNA genes were amplified with primers 338F (5-ACTCCTACGGGAGGCAGCA-3) and 806R (5-GGAC-TACHVGGGTW TCTAAT-3) targeting the bacterial and archaeal V3-V4 region in the 16S rRNA gene with a 10-mer barcode at the 50 end of primer 338F. To minimize PCR bias, two PCR reactions were set up for each sample, and the PCR products in the replicate reactions were pooled (13). The amplicons from each sample were pooled with an equimolar concentration and sequenced with the Illumina MiSeq platform.…”

“…The amplicons from each sample were pooled with an equimolar concentration and sequenced with the Illumina MiSeq platform. The details of PCR and related procedures were described previously by Li et al (13). Sequencing reads with primer sequences were removed.…”
