Glass of the composition 70%B2O3‐(30‐x)%Na2O‐x%Y2O3 with x = 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, and 2.5 mol% was manufactured using the melt quenching method. X‐ray diffraction tests indicated the amorphous structure of the glass, with the presence of some YBO3 clusters in the high yttrium content samples. Fourier transform infrared spectra analysis proved the presence of different borate groups and linkages, in addition to nonsystematic changes in the ratio BO3/BO4 in the glass. The forming ability of the glass was found to be approximately stable for the low Y3+ content samples and increased for the heavily doped samples. The density of the samples was found to increase as the Y3+ concentration was increased, whereas the molar volume decreased. The bond strength of the examined glass suggested that a covalent nature was dominant between bonds. All the Y3+‐doped glass was found to emit greenish‐cyan light when excited at λex=3650.25emnm. Photoluminescence intensity was shown to be enhanced by the generated YBO3 groups. The obtained correlated colour temperature values with 82.5% purity recommend the suitability of the glass for applications in outdoor illumination.

The gadolinium tungsten calcium silicon borate glasses doped with Tb 3+ were prepared using the melt quenching technique to study physical, absorption and luminescence properties. The results show that doping with Tb 2 O 3 in high concentration makes the glass density tendency to increase. The absorption spectra indicate the photon absorption of Tb 3+ in the visible and near infrared ranges. The emission spectra of these glasses have been recorded under 275 nm (Gd 3+) and 377 nm (Tb 3+) excitation wavelengths, and it is has been observed that these glasses show bright green emission. From the emission spectra, Tb 3+ doped glasses perform the strongest emission with the wavelength 544 nm. The optimum concentration of Tb 3+ with the strongest emission in Gd 2 O 3-WO 3-CaO-SiO 2-B 2 O 3 is 1.50 mol.%. CIE 1931 chromaticity investigation shows that Tb 3+ doped glasses emit the light with yellowish green color. Tb 3+-doped glasses have the interesting potential to further development for using as laser medium in yellowish green solid-state lasers.

IntisariMedium gelas lithium-borat yang disisipi (doping) oleh ion aktif erbium (Er 3+ ) telah berhasil dipreparasi dengan teknik melting-quenching. Komposisi penyusun medium mengikuti persamaan kimia (65-x)B2O3 -5ZnO -5Li2O -15 Na2O -10PbO -xEr2O3 (dengan x = 0; 0,05; 0,1; 0,5; 1,0; 2,0 dan 4,0 mol%). Sampel dalam serbuk dicampur dalam wadah alumina dan dilebur pada suhu 1200 • C menggunakan tungku pemanas listrik. Untuk memperoleh hasil yang baik dan tidak retak, suhu sampel gelas diturunkan secara teratur dengan laju rata-rata 7 • C per menit. Untuk mengetahui sifat fisis medium tersebut maka telah dilakukan pengukuran beberapa parameter dasar seperti kerapatan, volume molar dan indeks bias. Dari hasil tersebut diketahui bahwa konsentrasi ion aktif Er 3+ yang didoping telah mempengaruhi sifat fisis host gelas tersebut. Seperti halnya kerapatan gelas semakin meningkat dari 2,96 gr/cm 3 (x = 0,1 mol% ) menjadi 3,185 gr/cm 3 (x = 4 mol%). Indeks bias medium gelas juga semakin meningkat dengan ditambahkannya konsentrasi ion Er 3+ . Adapun indeks bias maksimum diperoleh saat konsentrasi ion Er 3+ sebesar 2,0 mol%. Dari hasil penelitian ini dapat diperoleh bahwa medium gelas lithium borat yang didoping oleh Er 3+ ini dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai salah satu kandidat penguat optik. The glasses medium followed composition (mol%): (65-x)B2O3 -5ZnO -5Li2O -15 Na2O -10PbO -xEr2O3 (with x = 0; 0,05; 0,1; 0,5; 1,0; 2,0 dan 4,0 mol%). Sample with powder form are mixed in the crucible alumina and melted at temperature 1200 • C by using of electrical furnance.After poured in to stainless stell, glasses sample were annealed with the decreases rate 7 • C per minute. Physical properties og glass medium such as density, molar volume and refractive index were inviestigated. From measured results can be known that Er 3+ ion doped with lithium borate glass can affect physical properties of glass host medium. Density of glass is increased from 2.96 gr/cm 3 (x = 0.1 mol%) to 3.185 gr/cm 3 (x = 4 mol%). Refractive index of glass medium also increased with addition Er 3+ ion concentration. The maximum refractive index is obtained when Er 3+ ion concentration of 2.0 mol%. Based on research results can be explained that Er 3+ doped Lithium-Borat glasses can be used as one of optical gain candidate.
