Effect of Nutrient Inputs on Water Quality Change and Phytoplankton Growth in Atsumi Bay

Abstract: Eutrophication in an estuary occurs as an effect of the enrichment of nutrient inputs from rivers. This condition has become one of the most common environmental issues experienced around the globe and especially in Japan. Atsumi Bay is a eutrophic coastal area in Japan. The objective of this research was to analyze the influences of nutrient inputs from the Umeda River into Atsumi Bay on pre-and post-rainfall water quality conditions. This study was conducted from July to October 2010. The results showed a de… Show more

“…It is known that rainfall causes the input of nutrients from rivers and consequently an increase in chlorophyll a. A similar phenomenon can occur at the studied lake. That is, nutrients dissolved in water flow from rivers and the lakeside into the lake, resulting in the proliferation of phytoplankton.…”

“…DO at station 1 was higher than the other stations, and there was also nutrient input from the discharge of organic matter into the waters, as a result the diversity of species and abundance of plankton at this location is high. The presence of these nutrients affected the growth of plankton in the waters (Mahlil et al, 2018). Runoff from settlements contains a lot of nutrients that enter the water body and are used for plankton growth.…”
