A coprecipitation method was developed for the synthesis of fibrous γ-alumina using serial membrane dispersion microreactors with a circulating continuous phase and high concentrations of NaAlO2 and Al2(SO4)3 as reactants. Owing to the ultra-high mixing intensity and reduction of supersaturation due to the large circular phase ratio, a large pore volume and specific surface area and an extremely narrow pore diameter distribution were realized using the high-concentration and high-viscosity precipitation system. The influence of the phase ratio, dispersion order of reactants, Al2(SO4)3 residence time, and the precipitation reaction pH and time were investigated, and the nanofiber formation mechanism was explored employing theoretical calculations. By controlling the Al2(SO4)3 residence time of 3 s, phase ratio of 16, and pH of 8.0, γ-Al2O3 nanofibers with a pore volume of 1.36 cm3/g, a specific surface area of 376 m2/g, and a length/diameter ratio in the range of 30–54 were obtained without any organic reagents. This study provides an economical and readily scalable method for the synthesis of fibrous γ-Al2O3 with excellent pore properties and a large specific surface area, which can potentially be applied as an excellent catalyst support for diesel and bio-oil hydrogenation.

Glycoboehmite (GB) materials are synthesized by a solvothermal reaction to form layered aluminum oxyhydroxide (boehmite) modified by intercalated butanediol molecules. These hybrid materials offer a platform to design materials with potentially novel sorption, wetting, and catalytic properties. Several synthetic methods have been used, resulting in different structural and spectroscopic properties, but atomistic detail is needed to determine the interlayer structure to explore the synthetic control of GB materials. Here, we use classical molecular dynamics (MD) simulations to compare the structural properties of GB interlayers containing chemisorbed butanediol molecules as a function of diol loading. Accompanying quantum (density functional theory, DFT) static calculations and MD simulations are used to validate the classical model and compute the infrared spectra of various models. Classical MD results reveal the existence of two unique interlayer environments at higher butanediol loading, corresponding to smaller (cross-linked) and expanded interlayers. DFTcomputed infrared spectra reveal the sensitivity of the aluminol O−H stretch frequencies to the interlayer environment, consistent with the spectrum of the synthesized material. Insight from these simulations will aid in the characterization of the newly synthesized GB materials.

A space‐shift phase‐coherent cancellation acoustic metasurface is developed, which can achieve broadband low‐frequency sound absorption via ultra‐thin integrated structure composed of multiple units with weak absorption capability. Through a space‐shift design of the channel length, the large‐size required in the thickness direction for low‐frequency absorption is transferred into an extremely ultra‐thin space layer. The units with gradient channel length are compactly arranged in an ultra‐thin layer through space folding, a coplanar sound absorption metasurface component with working bandwidth exceeding an octave and thickness of only λ/25 to λ/57 is obtained. As the construction of a special double‐hole “bridge” layout, even if the elements are sparsely distributed, strong coupling interactions between the units can sustain. When a certain local phase relationship is satisfied, the coherent cancellation of sound energy can be achieved, so as to reduce the sound reflection and scattering, and enhance the absorption performance. Therefore, from the perspective of phase relationship among units, the present work provides more clear physical image and intuitive theoretical explanation for achieving excellent broadband sound absorption through parallel superposition of multiple units with weak absorption capability. The proposed ultra‐thin sound absorbing metasurface can satisfy the thickness limitations and absorption performance requirements in most equipment.
