Effect of sinapic acid on memory deficits and neuronal degeneration induced by intracerebroventricular administration of streptozotocin in rats

Abstract: The present study aimed to elucidate the neuroprotective effect of sinapic acid on intracerebroventricular streptozotocin (ICV-STZ) induced neuronal loss and memory impairment. To test this hypothesis, male Wistar rats were randomly divided into 11 groups: normal control, sham-operated control, sinapic acid (2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg bw intragastrically, daily) alone, Alzheimer control rats (ICV-STZ, 3 mg/kg bw), sinapic acid (2.5, 5, 10, and 20 mg/kg bw intragastrically, daily) together with STZ, and the treat… Show more

“…Extensively found in spices, citrus, berry fruits, and vegetables ( Chen, 2016 ), SA is also known to exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticancer, and neuroprotective activities ( Chen, 2016 ; Zych et al, 2019 ). Both TSG and SA show protective effects on learning/memory deficits and cognitive impairment in AD animal models ( Lee et al, 2012 ; Sheng et al, 2016 ; Shahmohamady et al, 2018 ). However, to our knowledge, there is no report on the anti-Aβ42 aggregation effects of TSG and SA.…”

“…From the literature survey, minimum therapeutic doses of Syringic acid (SY) were finalized as 12.5, 25, 50 mg/kg/day and of Sinapic acid (SP) as 5, 10, 20 mg/kg/day orally (Li et.al.,2018, Shahmohamady et.al., 2018). Standard drug gabapentin 300 mg/kg/day p.o.…”

“…Sinapic acid (SP) is widely used in pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries because of its potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, preservative and antimicrobial activity (Raish et.al., 2019). SP is effectively proven to prevent memory loss, counterbalancing oxidative stress and beneficial in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease (Shahmohamady et.al., 2018). In accordance with this literature survey, the present study was undertaken to evaluate effect of SY and SP on hyperalgesia and allodynia in neuropathy.…”
