Effect of Soybean Isoflavones on Growth Performance, Immune Function, and Viral Protein 5 mRNA Expression in Broiler Chickens Challenged with Infectious Bursal Disease Virus

Abstract: A total of 200 one-day-old male broilers were assigned to five groups, and each group consisted of four replicates with 10 birds per replicate. Chicks were fed the basal diet with 0 (non-infected control), 0 (infected control), 10, 20, and 40 mg/kg soybean isoflavones (SI) for 42 days. At 21 days of age, chickens were inoculated with an infectious bursal dose (causing 50% morbidity) of the infectious bursal disease virus (IBDV) BC 6/85 strain by the eye-drop and nasal route (except for the non-infected group).… Show more

“…This shows the importance of CAT and MDA during infection with IBDV. The concentration of MDA has been reported to significantly increase during infection with IBDV in broilers fed with Soybean Isoflavones supplemented diet (Azzam et al, 2019). Catalase have also been reported as one of the best-known defence systems that scavenges ROS (Valko et al, 2007) and CAT equally plays a role in the protection of the cell against lipid peroxidation (Yang et al, 2010).…”

“…Among the several medicinal uses of MO, the antioxidant properties of Moringa oleifera leaf (MOL) has also been reported by several authors (Vyas et al, 2015;Falowo et al, 2017;Wright et al, 2017). Though, IBDV has been shown to cause oxidative stress in chickens (Ertekin et al, 2016), and the antioxidant capacity of Soya bean Isoflavones in broiler chickens during IBD infection (Azzam et al, 2019), the use of MOL supplemented diet as a source of antioxidant during IBD infection has not been reported, therefore, this study was designed to assess the effect of IBDV on oxidative stress biomarkers in broiler chickens fed MOL supplemented feed.…”

“…Mammalian β-glucosidase activity does not appear to substantially contribute to deconjugation of ISF glycosides in monogastric animals due to its lower expression level [222]. Supplemental 10-20 mg/kg ISF may have a positive effect on broiler chickens infected with infectious bursal disease virus, probably because ISFs decrease the severity of bursa lesions and viral protein 5 mRNA expression, a protein produced in response to IBDV to drive apoptosis, and have strong antioxidant activity [223]. One study highlighted the positive benefits of an ISF-rich diet on broiler chickens suffering from the infectious bursal disease virus.…”

“…By easily integrating into western diets, it improves the nutritional value of the food. 16 During the early 1960s, scientists were predicted that exponential population growth would lead to a global shortage of proteins in the future. This made the nutritional researchers develop a microbial protein source that would be an inexpensive and palatable food product.…”
