Effect of stacking sequence on the flexural and fracture properties of carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites

Abstract: In this study, the effect of stacking sequence on the flexural and fracture properties of carbon/ basalt/epoxy hybrid composites was investigated. Two types of carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites with a sandwich form were fabricated: basalt skin-carbon core (BSCC) composites and carbon skin-basalt core (CSBC) composites. Fracture tests were conducted and the fracture surfaces of the carbon/basalt/epoxy hybrid composites were then examined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the … Show more

“…Flexural strength of hybrid samples has been reported in (Bumpus, 2002;Dong et al, 2012;Lim et al, 2014). Flexural properties of hybrid unidirectional fi bre reinforced polymer (FRP) composites with span to depth (S/d) ratios of 16, 32, and 64 are investigated in (Davies and Hamada, 2001;Sudarisman and Davies, 2008).…”

“…Such research shows that basalt fibers influence the flexural strength of composites up to 70% (Nurjaya et al, 2015). Additionally, the effect of stacking sequences on mechanical properties has been studied by Onal and Adanur, (2002), Mariatti et al (2003), Agarwal et al (2014), Lim et al (2014), and Subagia et al (2014b).…”
