Effect of surface modifications on the retention of cement-retained implant crowns under fatigue loads: An In vitro study

Abstract: Background:Masticatory forces cause fatigue to the dental luting agents, adversely affecting the retention of these cement-retained crowns. Sandblasting (SB) and diamond abrading the abutment surface improves the bond strength of luting agents. However, the effect of acid etching (AE) on the implant abutment surface and the effect of other surface modifications under masticatory load are yet to be documented.Purpose:The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of abutment surface modifications on the retent… Show more

“…Figure 1 depicts the fact that diet patterns play an essential role in avoiding covid-19. About 68% of participants are aware of ayurvedic treatment to prevent covid-19 (Basha et al, 2018;Ajay, 2017;Nikhat and Fazil, 2020).…”

“…The surface properties of titanium may also play a role in the retention and failure patterns of luting cements. Previous studies have investigated various procedures such as sandblasting, circumferential roughening, and acid etching 13,36,37 that can change the surface energy of titanium 14 . Another method that can alter the surface energy of titanium is oxygen plasma treatment, a non-invasive procedure in which an oxide layer is formed on the titanium surface without the creation of areas of micro-retention.…”

“…Abutment surface properties and various surface modification methods have been investigated in a number of recent studies. 9,14 According to one study, modification techniques that alter the surface energy of titanium may represent the greatest potential for improvement in prosthesis retention 15 and secure an optimal balance between luting-cement bond strength and prosthesis retrievability. Methods such as sandblasting, airborne-particle abrasion, acid-etching, and the use of a diamond rotary to create circumferential grooves have all been reported to modify titanium surfaces and thus improve luting-cement bond strengths.…”

“…Dentists signi ied the main root of information concerning dental implant therapy modality accompanied by friends and electronic media. (Ganapathy et al, 2017;Kannan and Venugopalan, 2018) (Duraisamy et al, 2019;Ganapathy et al, 2016) Previously our team had conducted numerous studies which include in vitro studies (Ajay et al, 2017), clinical trials (Ranganathan et al, 2017;Ashok et al, 2014;Venugopalan et al, 2014), a systematic review (Vijayalakshmi and Ganapathy, 2016) and epidemiological surveys (Ashok and Suvitha, 2016) and hence the aim of this study was to identify the preference of treatment choice from the implant and FPD (Basha et al, 2018) among patients in Saveetha Dental College and Hospitals. (Ariga et al, 2018;Selvan and Ganapathy, 2016;Subasree et al, 2016)…”
