Effect of the transdermal low-level laser therapy on endothelial function

Abstract: The effect of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on the cardiovascular system is not fully established. Since the endothelium is an important endocrine element, establishing the mechanisms of LLLT action is an important issue. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of transdermal LLLT on endothelial function. In this study, healthy volunteers (n = 40, age = 20–40 years) were enrolled. N = 30 (14 female, 16 male, mean age 30 ± 5 years) constituted the laser-irradiated group (LG). The remaining 10 subjects (6… Show more

“…A low-power laser at 632.5 nm can enhance eNOS expression in endothelial cells, thereby promoting endothelial cell proliferation and migration, which plays an important role in angiogenesis. 10,15,16 TPKR/PLC-gamma/PKC Pathway The activation of PLC can catalyze phospholipids, thereby increasing the concentration of DAG, IP3. IP3 can increase calcium from the endoplasmic reticulum that activates PKC.…”

“…Transdermal PBM (t-PBM) is another therapy that has beneficial effects on the endothelium and blood flow [106]. Studies have shown that PBMT improves the immune system [107][108][109]. A study conducted by Szmcyszyn et al (2016) to evaluate the effects of t-PBM therapy on endothelial function [107].…”

“…Studies have shown that PBMT improves the immune system [107][108][109]. A study conducted by Szmcyszyn et al (2016) to evaluate the effects of t-PBM therapy on endothelial function [107]. Forty healthy young individuals (20-40 years old) were recruited and divided into two groups: laser group (n = 30) and control group (n = 10).…”

“… 5 The main findings showed the formation of giant mitochondria able to provide high respiratory rates, a higher volume of energy, and greater mitochondrial density in the tissues 6 with consequent synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), 7 modulation of gene expression with regeneration of musculoskeletal tissue, 5 increases in local microcirculation 8 and modulation of endothelial function with angiogenesis upregulated by the technique with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) as mediator. 9 , 10 These interactions have repercussions in exercise and its mechanisms of action are related to two main effects, i.e., ergogenic and protective or prophylactic. 11 Borsa et al 11 relate the ergogenic effects of changes in microcirculation, reduction in lactic acid production, 12 , 13 , 14 improvement in mitochondrial function, and increase in antioxidant capacity.…”
