“…Furthermore, the stability of the results over time, even after the weaning of compression garments, represent a considerable advantage of the VLF transfer over the lymphaticovenular anastomosis (LVA). LVA represents another valuable option for the treatment of lymphedema (Hayashi, Hayashi, Yoshimatsu, & Yamamoto, ) but it is still dependent on the finding of suitable lymphatics and veins and on the wearing of compression garments.…”

“…The incidence of adverse outcomes was significantly higher in patients with poor lymphatic status-NECST categories 3 to 5 compared with categories 1 and 2: UEL/LEL index poor reduction (OR: 3.96, 95% CI: 1. 20 The presence of diffuse dermal backflow at ICG lymphography staging significantly correlated with poor lymphatic channels findings (NECST 3-5) and thus with adverse single and composite outcomes.…”

“…17,18 In our opinion, color Doppler ultrasound venule mapping should be preferred as the tool for a more accurate LVA preoperative planning, which includes the preoperative functional and size evaluation of recipient venules with any limitation related to pannus thickness and swelling. 19,20…”

“…Other techniques that have been described for localization of the veins include ultrasonography or echography, which can certainly enhance and facilitate the LVA procedure. 24,25 However, while there may be benefits of the use of additional imaging technologies for identifying both the veins and the lymphatics for performing an LVB, the only critical imaging modality that has been agreed upon by surgeons who perform high-volume lymphedema surgeries is ICG.
