Effective factors on performance of zeolite based metal catalysts in light hydrocarbon aromatization

Abstract: Aromatic hydrocarbons are essential compounds, that the presence of which in fuels can improve the octane number. The conversion of the light alkanes to high value aromatics is vital from theoretical and industrial standpoints. Zeolites such as ZSM-5 play an essential role in the aromatization of light alkanes. This paper highlights the mechanism of aromatization of light alkanes such as methane, ethane, propane, butane, and its isomers. Furthermore, effective factors on the aromatization of light alkanes incl… Show more

“…Using dehydration, DEE is turned into C 4 olefins, which are then further converted into higher hydrocarbons through oligomerization, cracking, and aromatization, among other processes. Solid acid catalysts have been shown to improve the efficiency of these processes [23][24][25][26]. In several acid-catalyzed conversions of olefins, olefin oligomerization is a deactivation or undesirable reaction process.…”

“…Nevertheless, review articles on light alkane aromatization have been generally centered towards delivering a broad perspective of the reaction, often focusing on the conversion of individual alkane reactants. [17,[29][30][31][32][33] Only a few reviews have covered the addition of co-reactants in detail, [34,35] and thus, the literature lacks a comprehensive compilation of these studies. In this review, we gathered the substantial amount of work on the introduction of co-reactants in light alkane (C 1 -C 3 ) aromatization, within the past few decades.…”

“…Consequently, a vast amount of information has been accumulated regarding the pronounced effect of each co‐reactant and its underlying mechanism. Nevertheless, review articles on light alkane aromatization have been generally centered towards delivering a broad perspective of the reaction, often focusing on the conversion of individual alkane reactants [17,29–33] . Only a few reviews have covered the addition of co‐reactants in detail, [34,35] and thus, the literature lacks a comprehensive compilation of these studies.…”

“…Consequently, the conversion of alkanes into aromatics has attracted considerable attention owing to the abundant and low-cost sources of alkanes [ 5 , 6 ]. Although ZSM-5 zeolites have been widely used as commercial aromatization catalysts, the undesired side reactions involving C–C bond cleavage and recombination often result in mixed aromatics as products [ 7 , 8 ]. Therefore, the urgent issue in dehydrogenation transformation is to explore efficient catalysts with remarkable activity, high selectivity, and outstanding stability.…”
