Effective Majorana mass matrix from tau and pseudoscalar meson lepton number violating decays

Abstract: An observation of any lepton number violating process will undoubtedly point towards the existence of new physics and indirectly to the clear Majorana nature of the exchanged fermion. In this work, we explore the potential of a minimal extension of the Standard Model via heavy sterile fermions with masses in the [0.1 − 10] GeV range concerning an extensive array of "neutrinoless" meson and tau decay processes. We assume that the Majorana neutrinos are produced on-shell, and focus on three-body decays. We condu… Show more

“…For instance, at colliders, there are several possible signatures of lepton number violation [14][15][16][17][18][19][20]. As pointed out in several analyses, neutrino Majorana phases can also give rise to non-vanishing contributions to charged lepton electric dipole moments (EDMs) [21]; in particular, the computation of EDMs in the presence of right-handed neutrinos (like in the Type-I seesaw model) has been addressed in refs.…”

“…• In parallel with collider searches it is possible to look for LNV decays of tau leptons and pseudoscalar mesons as discussed in Refs. [39,82,102,103]. One issue is that if the LNV process is mediated by the light neutrinos the amplitude is proportional to and suppressed by the small m 2 ν , while if mediated by heavy neutrinos it is suppressed by 1/m N and |V N | 2 .…”
