Effectiveness of a Nurse-Led Hypertension Clinic: PP.20.284

Abstract

Objective: Vascular age is a new cardiovascular concept in epidemiology. The aim of this study is to measure the effect of controlling blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia or smoking on general population vascular age.Design and Method: A random sample without previous cardiovascular events and without diabetes was selected from general population, between 20 and 80 years-old. Total fatal cardiovascular risk was calculated with SCORE-project equation for low-risk countries. Vascular age (VA) was calculated with the actual data and in three different situations: with systolic blood pressure (SBP) equal to 140 mmHg in case of higher values, with total cholesterol (T-Chol) equal to 200 mg/dl in case of higher values and without smoking. Improvement of VA was calculated and compared between them.Results: 469 patients (48% male) were studied with a mean age of 53.39 years. VA was 58.16y, 4.57 years more than chronological age.
