This paper aims at identifying the state of possibility in English language classroom because English language classroom only emphasizes the four skills of language, but critical skills of students has not been prioritized. This study purposively selected six participants from three schools in Rupandehi district and collected the required data from the semi-structured interview. Thematic qualitative data analysis was used to explore the existing situation of possibility from the perspective of postmethod and critical pedagogy. Many research revealed about the state of other four language skills; however no research has still depicted the scenario of critical thinking prevailing in English language classroom. It revealed that the possibility has not been conceptualized because of insufficient content and conventional practices of teaching. Similarly, participants engaged in the study reflected that critical and sociocultural awareness are indispensable in the language classroom because language is a medium of negotiation of their views on several aspects of society. These perspectives from both the teachers and students pave the way for the integration of sociocultural issues in their pedagogical practices and the revitalization of teaching-learning modules in the classroom. Finally, it concluded that the development of sociocultural awareness alongside the enhancement of critical thinking among learners is indispensable in English language classroom.

“…Deep approach focuses on the meaning of what you are learning, in which the students can link the content they learn from general knowledge, daily experience, and knowledge from other fields or courses [ 20 ]. Therefore, the students have a better learning effectiveness if they can integrate information to understand content being taught by seeking meaning, relating ideas, using evidence, and having an interest in ideas rather than rote learning [ 21 ] In addition, cooperative learning was beneficial to improve learning effectiveness, which was demonstrated in many studies, no matter in learning genetics, self-efficacy, and conceptions of learning biology [ 22 ], Malay language [ 23 ], Mathematics [ 24 ], or English language [ 25 ]. Learning effectiveness may be affected by internal and external factors, including personal attitude, motivations, learning skills, learning environment and peer pressure. This study sought to explore potential factors on students who majored in medical technology. The 106 students who completed their internship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital were enrolled in this study. A written questionnaire was analyzed to explore the relationship between potential factors and learning effectiveness. The strength of relationship between the outcome and each factor was evaluated using Spearman correlation coefficients. A multiple linear regression model was constructed to assess how those factors affected learning effectiveness altogether. The results indicated that the learning effectiveness of the students mainly depended on three factors: the “extracurricular studies” and “willingness to cooperate” were positively associated with learning effectiveness. However, the “weakened motivation due to uncertainty” is negatively associated with learning effectiveness. We suggested that the educators can understand the uncertainty of students about the future. Additionally, the projects that require joint cooperation and discussion need to be given. The most important thing is that students should be able to integrate the learning content instead of rote.

Effect of CIRC on Learners’ Writing Performance across Cognitive Learning Styles

This research is intended to scrutinize the effect of CIRC on learners' writing performance across cognitive learning styles. Quasi-experimental research with a factorial design was implemented in this study. A total of forty subjects participated in this research. They were ELT learners in the third semester at the University of Khairun. Teaching writing to the learners in the two groups lasted 13 meetings. The learners in the experimental group were treated with CIRC, and the learners in the control group were taught with conventional techniques. The two-way ANOVA with interaction was carried out to test the research hypotheses. The research results showed that (1) the learners taught using the CIRC technique had better performance in writing than those taught the conventional technique, (2) the learners with field independence had not better performance in writing than those who had field dependence, (3) CIRC technique was more effective regardless of cognitive learning styles. CIRC is suggested to be applied as writing technique for increasing learners' writing performance, but the cognitive learning styles e.g., field dependence and field independence in the CIRC implementation are not necessarily worried by teachers.
