Effectiveness of different methods for polypectomy in the menopause: a retrospective study

Abstract: Introduction: Most endometrial polyps represent focal hyperplasia of the endometrium. Endometrial polyps can be diagnosed by ultrasound, hysterocontrastsonography, hysterosalpingography, endometrial biopsy, and uterine curettage, but the diagnostic hysteroscopy (HSC) is considered as gold-standard method, with the greatest sensitivity and specificity with also the opportunity of treatment at the same time. Study design: A retrospective study was conducted on 424 patients between 2006 and 2018. The polyps were … Show more

“…In addition, the recurrence rate of EPs by curettage is high, mainly because simple curettage cannot remove the base of polyps [ 19 ]. In this study, the recurrence of EPs in patients undergoing hysteroscopic electrotomy was lower than that of patients with curettage, which is consistent with the literature [ 26 ]. However, the thermal damage of electrotomy cannot be ignored as electrosurgical resection of polyps may lead to endometrial damage and intrauterine adhesion, and there is currently no definite evidence for its applicability to patients with fertility requirements.…”

“…Limited reports to explore risk factors of polyp recurrence are available, mostly focused on postmenopausal women [1]. Only a few studies conducted in reproductiveage women have suggested some risk factors, such as the duration of follow-up, the number and size of polyps, and sex hormone therapy [2][3][4]6].…”
