Today, various methods are used to remove the dye pollution in the increasing water. Adsorption is a fast and effective method that has been used since the past. The value of the obtained adsorption capacity varies according to the type of biosorbent material used. The seeds of the fruit of Sophora Japonica (SJfs), a tree commonly found in nature, were pyrolyzed at 450°C to produce biochar (SJfsB) in this study. Iron nanoparticles were immobilized into the SJfsB structure to form a more active biosorbent matrix. The obtained SJfsB and nM-SJfsB were used in the removal of methyl blue, an anionic dye. SJfsB and nM-SJfsB used for dye removal were characterized by FT-IR and SEM instruments. The obtained results revealed that the adsorption process occurred in the pseudo-second-order and was consistent with the Langmuir model. The maximum adsorption capacity for MB removal was 434.783 mg/g for nM-SJfsB and 76.923 mg/g for SJfsB, respectively.

Soil pollution, caused by potentially toxic elements (PTEs), is a significant problem worldwide. This study has investigated the key factors that control the mobility and fate of six PTEs (Pb, Cd, Cr, Cu, Zn, and Ni) which are frequently detected in contaminated soils. The findings of this study demonstrate that smaller particles present in soil show stronger adsorption capacity compared to larger particles because of the higher specific surface area. Moreover, soil with higher organic matter content (e.g., humic acid) exhibits stronger adsorption capacity due to the presence of abundant functional groups namely hydroxyl (─OH) and carboxyl (─COOH). Notably, these functional groups possess high affinity for Pb adsorption, followed by Cd > Cu > Cr > Zn > Ni. The adsorption of most of the PTEs by soil with and without humic acid is better described by the Langmuir isotherm model and pseudo‐second‐order kinetic model. Overall, the experimental results illustrate that soil with high contents of humic acid can restrict the mobility of PTEs. This mechanistic evaluation predicts how soils with different organic matter contents respond to PTEs pollution. This study outcome will be helpful in developing sustainable remediation strategies to tackle pollution caused by PTEs in the soil environment.

Activated carbon (AC) was developed from pinecone using KOH as an activator to eliminate dibenzothiophene (DBT) from a synthetic model of gasoline fuel. The best sample was the AC prepared, employing a 1.5:1 KOH: feed impregnation ratio at 750°C for 1 h. Thus, it was tested in the adsorptive elimination of DBT from the fuel after being identified by X‐ray diffraction (XRD), field‐emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), energy dispersive X‐ray (EDX), N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, pore volume distribution, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), total basic and acid groups, and pHPZC. The as‐obtained AC exhibited a Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) surface area of 478.89 m2/g with an average pore size of 2.0 nm, indicating its micropores structure. A removal performance of 97.90% was obtained using 0.30 g of AC at 20°C for 30 min, while the adsorptive capacity amounted to 34.38 mg/g as per the Langmuir isotherm. The as‐synthesized AC exhibited a good adsorptive performance for eliminating S compounds from commercial gasoline (42.11%) under the optimal experimental conditions, which increased to 88.16% with increasing the mass of AC implemented in the adsorption process. The adsorption of DBT through the fixed‐bed approach was also adopted, and the results at various flow rates of the effluent through fixed bed of the AC were close to that obtained via the batch‐adsorption system. The regenerated AC exhibited excellent adsorptive performance for DBT until 5 cycles of reuse, reflecting the effectiveness of the obtained AC. Finally, the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and pseudo‐second‐order kinetics model best described the DBT adsorption by the AC developed from pinecone.
