Effectiveness of wound healing using the novel collagen dermal substitute INSUREGRAF®

Abstract: Collagen sponges are often used as dermal substitutes in the treatment of burns, trauma, infections, and wounds. Dermal substitutes that can be applied in a one-stage operation are particularly important for dermal regeneration. Some protocols for the production of collagen sponges have been developed, but many issues remain, including low yield, contraction, and expense. In this study, the effectiveness of two skin substitutes was evaluated. Specifically, we compared two thin matrices, i.e., the newly develop… Show more

“…In terms of material structure, SEM images showed that the sponge of PELNAC™ is different to the matrix of MatriDerm ® . Both materials are highly porous, 80–95% porosity for PELNAC™ and 98.20% porosity for MatriDerm ® according to the literature [11,21]. The two scaffolds have pores of different sizes (70–110 µm for PELNAC™ and 25–60 µm for MatriDerm ® ) that are interconnected.…”

“…Recently, INSUREGRAF ® was developed as a OSDS. However, there are still hurdles in that INSUREGRAF ® cannot perfectly heal the wound without scarring in severe skin damage [23]. For this purpose, we attempted to fabricate an efficient artificial dermis functionalized with growth factors to promote wound repair.…”

“…The type I atelo collagen solution (Matrixen-PSC, Bioland), which was used to fabricate INSUREGRAF ® as previously described [23], was derived from porcine skin. This solution was used to fill a copper mold to maintain the structure of the dermal substitutes.…”

“…[134] They similarly present desired WUR for wound healing. [128] A moist wound bed needs to ameliorate the dermal reconstruction and wound closure, which result from the scaffold property of water vapor permeability (WVP). Importantly, the WVP is linked to two parameters, the thickness, and area to water surface area ratio.…”
