“…The drug stimulates primarily the release of norepinephrine, but to lower extent also dopamine and serotonine. Depending on the dose (which is typically between 30 and 37.5 mg/d) the placebo-subtracted weight loss attributed to treatment with phentermine (30 mg/d) is in the range of 4-8 kg after 12 weeks of treatment (Kim et al, 2006;Kang et al, 2010;Moldovan et al, 2016). Phentermine is generally well tolerated with little to no abusive potential, even when used chronically for up to 21 years (Hendricks et al, 2009).…”

“…With one notable exception, the comparative analyses of Table 3 show that JumpstartMD patients lost greater weight than reported for other calorie-counting, food choice, and meal plans (Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Rosemary Conley, and Itrim). JumpstartMD kg weight loss was 53% greater at 12-13 weeks, 84% greater at 24-26 weeks, and 75% Meffert [27] Meffert [27] Meffert [27] Meffert [27] Collins [44] Collins [44] Collins [45] Collins [45] Collins [45] Collins [45] Gold [46] Gold [46] Baetge [33] Rock [50] Rock [49] Rock [49] Rock [50] Rock [49] Rock [49] Baetge [33] Foster [52] Figueroa [53] Moldovan [55] Coleman [28] Davis [54] Shikany [56] Coleman [28] Davis [54] Shikany [56] Coleman [29] Coleman [29] Smith [59] Smith [59] Donnelly [58] Donnelly [58] Furlow [30] Donnelly [58] Donnelly [58] Furlow [30] Fabricatore [51] Fabricatore [51] greater at 1 year than reported for other commercial caloriecounting programs for LOCF analyses and approximately 2fold greater...…”

“…Based on the studies included in the metaanalysis, the most frequent adverse drug reaction of phentermine was dry mouth and insomnia, and the incidence of the adverse reactions showed a significant increase in phentermine compared with placebo [22,[30][31][32][33][34]. In addition, cardiovascular and neurological symptoms, such as hypertension, nervousness, depression, and palpitation, were reported [22,30,[35][36][37].…”
