Red claw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus) is an economic freshwater shrimp with great commercial potential. However, the suitable stocking density of C. quadricarinatus is still unclear in integrated rice–crayfish farming system. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the effects of stocking density on growth performance, mitophagy, endocytosis and metabolism of C. quadricarinatus. The C. quadricarinatus was reared at low density (LD, 35.73 g/m2), middle density (MD, 71.46 g/m2) and high density (HD, 107.19 g/m2) in an integrated rice–crayfish farming system. After 90 days of farming, the growth performance of C. quadricarinatus significantly decreased in the MD and HD groups relative to that in the LD group. The HD treatment caused oxidative stress and lipid peroxidation at the end of the experiment in hepatopancreas. Transcriptome analysis showed that there were 1,531 DEGs (differently expressed genes) between the LD group and HD group, including 1,028 upregulated genes and 503 downregulated genes. KEGG (Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes) enrichment analysis indicated that the DEGs were significantly enriched in endocytosis and mitophagy pathways. Meanwhile, four lipid metabolism pathways, including biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids, fatty acid biosynthesis, glycerolipid metabolism and glycerophospholipid metabolism, exhibited an upregulated tendency in the HD group. In conclusion, our data showed that when the stocking density reached up to 207.15 g/m2 in HD group, the growth performance of C. quadricarinatus was significantly inhibited in this system. Meanwhile, the data indicated that C. quadricarinatus may respond to the stressful condition via activating antioxidant defense system, endocytosis, mitophagy and metabolism-related pathways in hepatopancreas.

The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in upholding intestinal health, fostering intestinal development, fortifying organisms against pathogen intrusion, regulating nutrient absorption, and managing the body’s lipid metabolism. However, the influence of different cultivation modes on the growth indices and intestinal microbes of Salmo trutta fario remains underexplored. In this study, we employed high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics techniques to scrutinize the intestinal microbiota in three farming modes: traditional pond aquaculture (TPA), recirculating aquaculture (RA), and flow-through aquaculture (FTA). We aimed to assess the impact of different farming methods on the water environment and Salmo trutta fario’s growth performance. Our findings revealed that the final weight and weight gain rate in the FTA model surpassed those in the other two. Substantial disparities were observed in the composition, relative abundance, and diversity of Salmo trutta fario gut microbiota under different aquaculture modes. Notably, the dominant genera of Salmo trutta fario gut microbiota varied across farming modes: for instance, in the FTA model, the most prevalent genera were SC-I-84 (7.34%), Subgroup_6 (9.93%), and UTCFX1 (6.71%), while, under RA farming, they were Bacteroidetes_vadinHA17 (10.61%), MBNT15 (7.09%), and Anaeromyxoactor (6.62%). In the TPA model, dominant genera in the gut microbiota included Anaeromyxobacter (8.72%), Bacteroidetes_vadinHA17 (8.30%), and Geobacter (12.54%). From a comparative standpoint, the genus-level composition of the gut microbiota in the RA and TPA models exhibited relative similarity. The gut microbiota in the FTA model showcased the most intricate functional diversity, while TPA farming displayed a more intricate interaction pattern with the gut microbiota. Transparency, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total dissolved solids, and temperature emerged as pivotal factors influencing Salmo trutta fario gut microbiota under diverse farming conditions. These research findings offer valuable scientific insights for fostering healthy aquaculture practices and disease prevention and control measures for Salmo trutta fario, holding substantial significance for the sustainable development of the cold-water fish industry in the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau.

The Chinese mitten crab (Eriocheir sinensis), a species unique to Chinese aquaculture, holds significant economic value in the seafood market. In response to increasing concerns about the quality and safety of Chinese mitten crab products, the high traceability costs, and challenges for consumers in verifying the authenticity of individual crabs, this study proposes a lightweight individual recognition model for Chinese mitten crab carapace images based on an improved MobileNetV2. The method first utilizes a lightweight backbone network, MobileNetV2, combined with a coordinate attention mechanism to extract features of the Chinese mitten crab carapace, thereby enhancing the ability to recognize critical morphological features of the crab shell while maintaining the model’s light weight. Then, the model is trained using the ArcFace loss function, which effectively extracts the generalized features of the Chinese mitten crab carapace images. Finally, authenticity is verified by calculating the similarity between two input images of Chinese mitten crab carapaces. Experimental results show that the model, combined with the coordinate attention mechanism and ArcFace, achieves a high accuracy rate of 98.56% on the Chinese mitten crab image dataset, surpassing ShuffleFaceNet, MobileFaceNet, and VarGFaceNet by 13.63, 11.1, and 6.55 percentage points, respectively. Moreover, it only requires an average of 1.7 milliseconds per image for verification. While maintaining lightness, this model offers high efficiency and accuracy, offering an effective technical solution for enhancing the traceability of Chinese mitten crab products and combating counterfeit goods.
