Effects of Gas Adsorption Properties of an Au-Loaded Porous In2O3 Sensor on NO2-Sensing Properties

Abstract: Gas adsorption properties of semiconductor-type gas sensors using porous (pr-) In 2 O 3 powders loaded with and without 0.5 wt % Au (Au/pr-In 2 O 3 and pr-In 2 O 3 sensors, respectively) at 100 °C were examined by using diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy, and the effect of the Au loading onto pr-In 2 O 3 on the NO 2 -sensing properties were discussed in this study. We found the following: the resistance of the Au/pr-In 2 O 3 sensor in dry air is lower than that of the pr-In 2 O 3 senso… Show more

“…The gas sensing mechanism of the metal oxides, including n-type In 2 O 3 , is well studied. [63][64][65][66][67][68][69] Energy band characterizations of In 2 O 3 in Fig. 3 confirm highly n-type material evidenced by measured Fermi level closer to the conduction band minimum than the valence band maximum.…”

“…The characteristics of NO 2 sensors based on other materials are presented in Table 5. Sensors operating at room temperature have long response/recovery times [82][83][84][89][90][91][92][93]. The advantage of such sensors is that there is no need for heating to operating temperature, and they can be used indoors.…”

“…At high SO 2 concentrations, a portion of the pre-adsorbed oxygen is depleted by SO 2 , and subsequently, most of the SO 2 undergoes direct electron exchange with the materials, leading to a slight discrepancy in the response. 53…”
