Effects of graphene reduction degree on thermal oxidative stability of reduced graphene oxide/silicone rubber nanocomposites

Abstract: In this work, graphene oxide (GO) was prepared with a modified Hummers method and then reduced to different reduction degree by thermal treatment. The GO and reduced GO (RGO) samples were introduced into silicone rubber (SR) matrix to prepare nanocomposites. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectra, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscopy measurement were performed to detect the structure and morphology changes of GO and RGO sheets. The results showed that the reduction removed most of t… Show more

“…The processing of the rupture of side groups needed more heat, so the SR–LrGO nanocomposites showed three peaks in DTG compared with the other samples. rGO also played the role of physical crosslink points in the nanocomposites, so the dispersion and compatibility of the rGO sheets in the SR matrix were very important . As we discussed previously, the LrGO sheets had a poor dispersion state and compatibility in SR.…”

“…The results presented in Table further certify that the thicknesses of the different sheets were similar. Moreover, according to our previous works, the different rGO sheets prepared with the same conditions contained the same amounts of oxygen‐containing functional groups after thermal reduction …”

“…The interfacial interaction between filler and PP matrix can also be evaluated from the SEM images . There is present a distinct boundary between GO (or RGOA) and PP matrix as well as pull‐out fillers on the fracture surface, indicating the poor interfacial adhesion . However, no obvious separated interface is observed between RGOH and PP matrix, which shows the strong interfacial adhesion between RGOH and PP matrix.…”
