Effects of Hexane Root Extract ofFerula hermonisBoiss. on Human Breast and Colon Cancer Cells: AnIn VitroandIn VivoStudy

Abstract: Breast and colon cancers are leading causes of cancer-related deaths globally. Plants are a potential source of natural products that may be used for the treatment of cancer. Ferula hermonis (FH) is reported to have diverse therapeutic effects. However, there are few reports on the in vitro anticancer potential of FH extract. Our results showed that the Ferula hermonis root hexane extract (FHRH) can induce dose-dependent cytotoxic effects in breast and colon cancer cells with MTT IC50 values of 18.2 and 25 μg/… Show more

“…One of the Ferula species, F. szowitsiana showed a solid cytotoxic property against MCF-7 cell line (IC50: 61.3 µg/ml) 43 . Additionally, root hexane extracts of F. hermonis showed a dose-dependent cytotoxic effect against MDA-MB-231 (IC50: 18.2 μg/ml) 44 .…”

“…The IC50 value of siderol, a well-known major constituent of the genus Sideritis, was calculated as 26.4±3.7 µM in DLD-1 cell line (Tomou et al, 2020). The hexane extract of Ferula hermonis root (IC50: 25 µg/mL) was found to have moderate sensitivity on the LoVo cell line (Abutaha et al, 2019). In a different study, cytotoxic activities of the methanol 80% extracts and the hexane, chloroform, and methanol fractions of Ferula szowitsiana, and Ferula hirtella were tested on the HT-29 line.…”

“…Each primer pair ( Table 1 ) was used separately. The following conditions were used to determine the relative gene expression: reverse transcription was performed at 45°C for 45 minutes as a starting point, initial denaturation at 95°C with 10 min hold, followed by 40 cycles of 95°C for 15 sec, and 60°C for 60 sec [ 28 ].…”
