Effects of Multiple Influence Quantities on Rogowski-Coil-Type Current Transformers

Abstract: This paper presents a study on Low-Power Passive Current Transformer. In particular, the performance analysis of 3 Rogowski coils have been assessed when multiple influence quantities where acting on them: conductor position, frequency, and ambient temperature. First of all, their single effects have been assessed, then all their possible combination have been tested. From the results it can be concluded that ratio error is mostly affected by the combination of uncentered positions and temperature applied to R… Show more

“…However, such tests may be considered to be too difficult and complex to be performed by both final users and manufacturers. A confirmation of the statement can be found in [31,32,36,38], where quite complicated, extremely accurate setups have been developed to test LPCTs in a variety of mutual positions between the LPCT and the primary conductor. Even with those setups, it could be difficult to tests the angle prescribed by the standard and reported in Table 1.…”

“…The primary and the external conductor positioning can be considered among the main causes of performance degradation of an LPCT. In fact, from [31], it is clear how positions that are different from the centered one (see Figure 6) drastically change the LPCT behavior leading; in some cases, to exceed the accuracy class limits). In [31], a study has been presented in which several LPCTs have been tested in various positions.…”

“…Turning to the tests combining more than one influence quantity, the authors completed a work on LPCTs [37], in which the accuracy of generic off-the-shelf LPCTs was tested when the simultaneous presence of frequency, temperature, conductor position, and magnetic field was affecting them. In this work, the three quantities are the backbone of the calibration procedure designed to assess the LPVTs' accuracy when all external quantities are affecting them.…”
