Effects of pre-processing on the active compounds before drying Eucommia ulmoides leaves

Abstract: Aiming to provide a new way that preserves more active components in Eucommia ulmoides (EU) leaves, this paper utilizes 4 methods, i.e., microwave, steam, air heating, and frying, to process EU leaves before drying, and their respective effects on the leaves were evaluated. The antioxidant activity of EU leaves in vitro was measured by the DPPH free radical method; the contents of total flavonoids (TFC) and total phenols (TPC) were analyzed by spectrophotometry; and the contents of main active components were … Show more

“…The quality research of traditional Chinese medicine has been the focus and hot spot of the modernization research of traditional Chinese medicine. Some chemical components of traditional Chinese medicine will change during the storage process and the control of these components that are prone to qualitative and quantitative changes has become the main focus of the quality control of traditional Chinese medicine (Guo et al, 2023;Chen et al, 2023). The chemical composition of the Yanlishuang Pills is complex and easily volatile, and only the joint monitoring of multiple components can achieve quality control of the active ingredients.…”

“…Among various drying technologies, infrared radiation drying is an electromagnetic radiation method with rapid heating and high heat transmission capabilities. In a study conducted by Chen and Zhang ( 8 ), different drying methods were compared for their impact on the constituents of Duchess leaves. Far-infrared drying exhibited the least impact on leaf composition, effectively preserving active ingredients.…”

“…The best-known phytochemical compounds are phenolic compounds (polyphenols), tannins, indoles, saponins, carotenoids, tocopherols, coumarins, terpenes, isothiocyanates, sulfites, terpenoids, sulforaphane, flavonoids, phytosterols and phytoestrogens. [5] These compounds are rich in phytochemicals with antimicrobial and antioxidant activity, which are used against many diseases today [6] Flavonoids, which represent an important group of phenolics, are secondary metabolites with significant antioxidant, antimicrobial activity, and chelating properties [5] In the literature, antioxidant of flavonoid compounds [7] anti-inflammatory [8] antiallergic, antiviral [9] and anticarcinogen (cytotoxic) [10] a wide variety of bioactive activities have been reported. The main component of the flavonoids group is flavones, and the most important members are routine, apigenin, epicatechin, kaempferol, eriodictiol, fisetin, and luteolin have been reported [11].…”
