Effects of Sample Storage Conditions on Glycated Hemoglobin Measurement: Evaluation of Five Different High Performance Liquid Chromatography Methods

Abstract: All methods either met or exceeded manufacturers' claims for stability. The CLC 385/330, Tosoh G7, and Bio-Rad Variant II high performance liquid chromatography methods showed better stability than the Tosoh 2.2 Plus and Bio-Rad Variant.

“…Blood tubes should contain the anticoagulant specified by the manufacturer of the Hb A 1c assay method (EDTA can be used unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise). Sample stability is assay method specific (239,240 ). In general, whole-blood samples are stable for up to 1 week at 4°C (240 ).…”

“…1 Prevalence of diabetesspecific retinopathy (moderate or more severe retinopathy) by vigintiles of the distribution of FPG, 2hPG and HbA 1c from the DETECT-2 analysis (adapted with permission from [57]). Indicative of chronic glycaemia [12] Results can be misleading in certain physiological and disease states [73] More convenient, as patient not required to fast and only one blood sample taken Not a direct measure of glycaemia Validated as a risk marker for complications and mortality [15][16][17][18]98] May vary with age and between different ethnic groups [65] Less intra-individual variability [99,100] More expensive, being unaffordable in many low and middle-income country settings [4] Greater pre-analytical stability [34,101] comes more widely used the epidemiological landscape of type 2 diabetes will be altered. It remains to be determined whether or not these supposed ethnic differences in HbA 1c are clinically consequential.…”

“…Кроме того, уровень HbA 1c относительно стабилен в образце крови, взятом для анализа [12,13]. Вариабель-ность HbA 1c при повторном заборе составляет менее 2%, а для ГПН -12-15% [14,15].…”
