Effects of Seeding Density on Growth Attributes of Broadleaf Mustard in Nursery Bed

Abstract: The productivity of crops is highly affected by the seedling quality, which is governed by seeding density in the nursery. So, an experiment was conducted to explore the effect of seedling spacing in the growth attributes of Broad Leaf Mustard cv. “Marpha Chauda Paate” at IAAS, Lamjung Campus, during Oct 2018. Four spacing treatments viz 0.5 cm × 1 cm, 1 cm × 1 cm, 1.5 cm ×1.5 cm and 2 cm × 2 cm were arranged in RCB Design with 5 replications. Observation of seedling height, leaf area, leaf number, shoot &… Show more

“…So, it is realized that the selection of suitable BLM varieties having better qualitative as well as quantitative characters with their improved cultivation practices are very essential. Additionally, weather patterns have a significant impact on mustard productivity through its life cycle because different sowing dates offer varying environmental circumstances for a crop's growth and development in the same location (Panda et al, 2004;Prasad et al, 2018;Niraula & Timilsina, 2020). Being a long-day plant, BLM thrives in cool (15-18°C) temperatures rather than short day lengths.…”

“…Paudel et al (2016) reported that 58 different accession of BLM and 92 different accessions of rapeseed has been characterized and evaluated in National Agriculture Genetic Resource center (NAGRC), Khumatar, Nepal. Niraula and Timilsina (2020) stated that Broad leaf mustard is commonly grown as a transplanted crop from the nursery. The common variation that is seen in different variety of BLM is presence or absence of trichomes, leaf size (length and width), leaf petiole size, taste of leaf etc.…”

“…(Chalise et al, 2020). The productivity of Mustard is profoundly affected by prevailing weather conditions throughout its lifecycle (Niraula and Timilsina, 2020). 'Khumal broad leaf', 'Khumal red leaf', 'Marpha broad leaf' and 'Tankhuwa Rayo' are released varieties of BLM which have been cultivated since long time in Nepal (Shrestha et al, 2021).…”
