Efficacy of cephalosporins against enterobacteria isolated from patients with chronic osteomyelitis

Abstract: Long-term antibiotic therapy, as well as inappropriate use of drugs in the treatment of osteomyelitis, can lead to the appearance of pan-resistant strains. The existing antibiotic prophylaxis regimens for purulent-septic complications are outdated and need to be adjusted. In this regard, it is necessary to monitor the resistance of microorganisms in order to identify ineffective antibacterial drugs. To analyze the resistance profiles of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from patients with chronic osteomyelitis to ce… Show more

“…K. pneumoniae is one of the most frequently isolated gram-negative agents in cases of osteomyelitis. In studies conducted on osteomyelitis, cephalosporin resistance is around 80% in K. pneumonia strains [ 25 ]. Carbapenems remain a good treatment option for the Enterobacteriaceae family that produces extended-spectrum beta-lactamase.…”

“…This pathology is characterized by a polymorphism of clinical manifestations, associated not so much with the epidemic or epizootic situation, but with the age and state of the patient's defenses. Opportunistic enterobacteria, under certain conditions, also play an active role in the etiology of acute intestinal infections in humans and animals [5,6,7,8,12].…”
