Efficacy of Optical Internal Urethrotomy and Intralesional Injection of Vatsala-Santosh PGI Tri-Inject (Triamcinolone, Mitomycin C, and Hyaluronidase) in the Treatment of Anterior Urethral Stricture

Abstract: Purpose. To study the efficacy of optical internal urethrotomy with intralesional injection of Vatsala-Santosh PGI tri-inject (triamcinolone, mitomycin C, and hyaluronidase) in the treatment of anterior urethral stricture. Material and Methods. A total of 103 patients with symptomatic anterior urethral stricture were evaluated on the basis of clinical history, physical examination, uroflowmetry, and retrograde urethrogram preoperatively. All patients were treated with optical internal urethrotomy followed by i… Show more

“…Almost 92% of patients in the control group experienced recurrence of urethral stricture by 6 months, whereas a delay in recurrence was observed in 54% of patients in the mitomycin C group. Our observation agrees with the literature [ 20 22 23 25 ]. Significant improvement in uroflowmetry was observed in patients without recurrence in both groups.…”

“…Currently, a combination of antifibroblast agents containing mitomycin is being used with successful outcomes. Kumar et al [ 23 ] recorded the recurrence of urethral stricture in only 20% of cases after intralesional injections. Another study by Chung [ 24 ] also showed positive results of recurrence in only 10% with intralesional injections.…”

“…This trend continues despite the moderate success rate reported in the selected patients. To reduce the stricture recurrence rate, several investigators evaluated different intralesional adjuvant injections with variable success [ 18 23 ]. We set out to report the results of VIU of our patients, including a wider inclusion base and strict criteria of success in a long follow-up period.…”

“…[8,9] There are many investigations about use of drugs such as steroids, Mitomycin C, Hyaluronidase to avoid this scar or keloid formation. [10,11] We aimed to investigate the combination of steroid injection with IU in order to avoid the recurrence of strictures and cure the patient with minimally invasive treatment.…”
