Efficacy of Povidone Iodine Solution in the Prevention of Surgical Site Infections in Minimally Invasive Instrumented Spinal Fusion Surgery

Abstract: Study Design: A retrospective case-controlled study. Objectives: To evaluate overall infection rate and adverse event after harvesting bone graft soaking and surgical wound irrigation by povidone iodine solution (PVI) in the minimally invasive instrumented spinal fusion surgery. In order to reduce the rate of surgical site infection in spinal surgery, surgical wound irrigation by povidone iodine solution has been well-established. However, the efficacy of autologous bone graft soaking by PVI has not been evalu… Show more

“…Rod was then placed and fixed with nuts after rechecking the position. Microscopic decompression and transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion was then performed under the incision for pedicle screws with cage, demineralized bone matrix(OsteoSelect AQ3 DBM Putty, Bacterin International Inc., Belgrade, MT), and autologous bone graft [14,15]. All surgeries were performed by 1 senior spinal surgeon.…”
