Efficient photodegradation of neutral red chloride dye in aqueous medium using graphene/cobalt--manganese oxides nanocomposite

Abstract: Graphene/cobalt-manganese oxides nanocomposites were prepared from their precursor through chemical reduction where NaOH was used as a reducing agent. The obtained GNs/Co-Mn nanocomposites were used as photocatalyst for the photodegradation of Neutral Red Chloride (NRC) dye in aqueous solution under sunlight as a function of time and catalyst dosage. The morphology and photodegradation study was carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UV-VIS spectrophotometry, respectively. The SEM image showe… Show more

“…Graphite structures can be viewed as stacked 2-dimensional hexagonal carbon material and are used to create single or multilayer graphene (GR), as well as its derivatives, such as graphene oxide (GO). GR is a monolayer of these structures in a honeycomb lattice, which has been considered to be a building block because it is wrapped to form fullerenes, rolled to form carbon nanotubes, or stacked regularly to form graphite [1][2][3][4]. GR and GO layers have been investigated effectively to form new composite materials.…”

“…Photodegradation is a chemical process that occurs when complex molecules are broken down into simpler, harmless fragments with lower molecular weight upon exposure to light [62]. Methylene blue is an organic dye that is stable when exposed to visible light [63].…”

“…This metal oxide is a p-type semiconductor. The band gap width of NiO is between 3.6 to 4.0 eV [12]. NiO is commonly employed in photodegradation applications because it is known to have high photocatalysis activity properties, good chemical and physical stability, non-toxicity, and relatively low synthesis cost [13].…”
