Efficient Radio Transmission with Adaptive and Distributed Beamforming for Intelligent WiMAX

Abstract: In this paper, we introduce Adaptive Beamforming (AB) and Distributed Beamforming (DB) as two efficient techniques for Intelligent WiMAX (I-WiMAX). I-WiMAX is a new maritime communication system, consisting of Smart Radio (SR) principles and mobile WiMAX based on the IEEE 802.16e standard. Adopting AB, the same spectrum can accommodate more users by directing the main beam towards desired users while antenna pattern nulls towards others. To reduce the channel interferences caused by spectrum reusing, the Null … Show more

“…Part I of this paper [1] is focused on a comparative analysis of empirical and geometrical (theoretical) models of the probability density function (PDF) of azimuth AOA (AAOA) for different environmental conditions. Empirical models are based on standard distributions such as Gaussian [2][3][4][5], Laplacian [2,3,[6][7][8][9][10][11][12], logistic [13][14][15][16], and von Mises [3,[17][18][19][20][21], which are being modified due to limited support of PDF of AAOA. The theoretical models are defined by the geometrical structures that describe the spatial position of scattering elements.…”

“…The principle of the necessity of generating spread nulls has been explained in [25]. In wireless communication systems, the received signal and power spectra at the mobile station at wireless communication depend on the pdf of the AOA of the scattered wave.…”

“…In the open literature, the statistical AAOA analysis shows that the empirical data approximation is based on PDF such as the Laplacian [15,21,22,[24][25][26][27][28][29], Gaussian [22,24,30,31], and von Mises [22,[32][33][34][35][36]. In this paper, the logistic distribution [37][38][39][40] …”
