“…Recently, we reported that verticillene (bicyclic [9.3.1] diterpenes) and norverticillene (C 19 norditerpene) skeletons are derived from geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate and (1S)verticillene, respectively [8], and they are similar to taxane diterpenes isolated from various species of terrestrial Taxus trees [9]. The previous phytochemical investigations of the Taiwanese soft coral Cespitularia hypotentaculata have led to the isolation of several bioactive metabolites, such as cespihypotins A -Z [4] [11 -13], cespihypotone [7], cespitularins A -H [10], cespitularins I -Q, cespitolide, 3b,11dihydroxy-5b,6b-epoxy-9,11-secocholestan-9-one, and 3b,11-dihydroxy-5b,6b-epoxy-9,11-secogorgostan-9-one [14].
