Several approaches for the direct search of dark matter, in which the energy deposited by the scattering dark matter particle is detected, are extensively used to constrain the mass and interaction strength of these hypothetical particles. Gaining information on the income direction of the interacting particle would be the only way to overcome the neutrino floor or to study the properties of any found signal. We are studying the direction-sensitive dark matter search using a super-high resolution nuclear emulsion, NIT which stands for Nanoimaging Tracker. NIT consists of silver-halide crystals (AgBr(I)) with diameters at the 10 nm scale. The major feature of NIT is the possibility of detecting nanometric tracks as expected for nuclear recoils induced by dark matter scattering. The NEWSdm project is carrying out measurements in the Gran Sasso INFN laboratory, LNGS, in Italy. In this review, we introduce the technologies for the NEWSdm experiment and discuss the challenges for the near-future dark matter search.

The Kalb-Ramond field is an antisymmetric, rank-two tensor field which most notably appears in the context of string theory, but has largely been unexplored in the context of cosmology. In this work, motivated by the Kalb-Ramond field in string theory, and antisymmetric tensor fields that emerge in effective field theories ranging from particle physics to condensed matter, we study the primordial production of interacting massive Kalb-Ramond-like-particles (KRLPs). KRLPs contain features of both dark photon and axion models, which can be appreciated via their duality properties. While the massless non-interacting KRLP is dual to a pseudoscalar, and the massive non-interacting KRLP is dual to a pseudovector, the interacting massive KRLP can be distinguished from its scalar and vector counterparts. We study early-universe production of KRLPs via the freeze-in mechanism, considering a ‘dark photon-like’ interaction, an ‘axion-like’ interaction, and a ‘Higgs portal’ interaction, as well as production via cosmological gravitational particle production. We find that as a dark matter candidate, KRLPs can be produced by all of the above mechanisms and account for the relic density of dark matter today for a wide range of masses. Finally, we comment on the potential to obtain both warm and cold dark matter subcomponents, and speculate on observational and experimental prospects.

Obviating PBH overproduction for SIGWs generated by pulsar timing arrays in loop corrected EFT of bounce

In order to unravel the present situation of the PBH overproduction problem, our study emphasizes the critical role played by the equation of state (EoS) parameter w within the framework of effective field theory (EFT) of non-singular bounce. Our analysis focuses on a wide range of EoS parameter values that are still optimal for explaining the latest data from the pulsar timing array (PTA). As a result of our study, the most advantageous window, 0.31 ≤w≤ 1/3, is identified as the location of a substantial PBH abundance,fPBH∈ (10-3,1) with large mass PBHs,MPBH∼𝒪(10-7–10-3)M⊙, in the SIGW interpretation of the PTA signal. When confronted with PTA, we find that the overproduction avoiding circumstances are between 1σ-2σ, while the EoS parameter lies inside the narrow window, 0.31 <w≤ 1/3. We propose a regularized-renormalized-resummed (RRR) scalar power spectrum that is large enough to produce EoS dependent scalar generated gravitational waves compatible with PTA evidence, while satisfying the perturbativity, causality, and unitarity criteria, within the range of 0.88 ≤cs≤ 1.
