Elective Obturator Hernia Repair after Closed Repositioning with Ultrasonography

Abstract

An 81-year-old woman presented with abdominal pain and nausea. An abdominal CT revealed a low density mass in the right obturator canal, connecting to the small intestine. A right obturator hernia was diagnosed. Non-operative repositioning was performed 2 hours after the onset of the symptoms. After 4 days of repositioning, she underwent an elective mesh repair of the obturator hernia via a femoral approach. Patients with obturator hernias often undergo emergency open surgery. However, performing closed repositioning of the obturator hernia can result in less invasive surgery.
