Electric Current Dependent Fracture in GaN Piezoelectric Semiconductor Ceramics

Abstract: In this paper, the fracture behavior of GaN piezoelectric semiconductor ceramics was investigated under combined mechanical and electric loading by using three-point bending tests and numerical analysis. The experimental results demonstrate that, in contrast to traditional insulating piezoelectric ceramics, electric current is a key factor in affecting the fracture characteristics of GaN ceramics. The stress, electric displacement, and electric current intensity factors were numerically calculated and then a s… Show more

“…The above equations are applicable to each component phase of the composite structure in Figure 1 as special cases. They have been used to study thickness vibration of plates [ 25 , 26 ], wave propagation [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ], fields near cracks [ 33 , 34 , 35 ], extension of rods [ 36 , 37 , 38 , 39 ], bending of beams [ 40 , 41 , 42 , 43 , 44 , 45 ], and fields near PN junctions [ 46 , 47 , 48 , 49 ] in piezoelectric semiconductors.…”

“…The propagation of elastic waves in PS rods and plates has been investigated in several studies under diverse situations [18][19][20][21][22][23][24]. By using the displacement discontinuity method, Zhao et al [25] and Qin et al [26] studied the crack in PSs. Additionally, the influence of temperature has been explored by integrating thermoelectric effects into the macroscopic theory of PSs, further enriching our understanding of the electromechanical responses [27][28][29].…”

“…The theoretical analysis of multi-dimensional PSC problems is more difficult due to more complex equilibrium equations, constitutive relations, and multi-field coupling boundary conditions. In spite of this, there are classic electromechanical coupling problems that have been solved for thin plates [30][31][32], or infinite or semi-infinite domains, such as those for fracture [33][34][35] and wave propagation [36][37][38]. In addition, the studies on the temperature effects of PSCs [39][40][41] and the combinations with other functional materials [42,43] also enrich the understanding of the multi-field coupling effects of structures.…”
