Abstract-Selection of the most appropriate communications technology for a smart grid (SG) application is far from trivial. We propose such a feasibility assessment starting from identification of key performance indicators (KPIs) required for peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading and grid control operations from a communications perspective. A set of cross-disciplinary KPIs, both quantitative and qualitative, are considered from communications, power, business, actor involvement, financial, and demand side management categories. They serve as a general baseline for use cases, as there have been few previous works attempting to capture the essential features of P2P SG operations. The KPIs are briefly identified along with their relations to P2P energy trading and grid control. A straightforward comparison of the quantitative and qualitative KPIs' impact on technology selection is not feasible. This paper addresses the comparison with: 1) a prioritization of the KPIs using the analytic hierarchy process; 2) a comparison of technology solutions evaluated in our previous works against the KPIs' requirements; and 3) a total feasibility evaluation of the solutions against selected KPIs. The prioritization shows latency, reliability, security, scalability, robustness, costs of information and communication technologies (ICT) devices, and costs of ICT deployment are the most important KPIs in enabling P2P energy trading and grid control. Further, the technology feasibility assessment enables identification of the most suitable candidates for an SG application.

I expand and integrate a theory of mobility (Automobility) with one of science and technology (Actor Network Theory) and one about social acceptance and user adoption (UTAUT).I apply this integrative framework to the diffusion (and non-diffusion) of electric vehicles and the process of electric mobility. I begin by presenting my methods, namely semi-structured qualitative research interviews with social theorists. Then, I present the three theories deemed most relevant by respondents. Automobility holds that, on a cultural or social level, automobiles exist as part of a complex, one that involves hardware and infrastructure-a hybridity between drivers and machines-along with patterns of identity and attitudes about driving pleasure. Actor Network Theory (ANT) involves the concepts of network assemblage, translation, enrollment, and actants and lieutenants. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology, or UTAUT, states that on an individual level, the adoption of new technologies will be predicated on interconnected factors such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and other facilitating conditions.Based largely on the original interview data supplemented with peer-reviewed studies, I propose a conceptual framework of user acceptance consisting of motile pleasure, sociality, sociotechnical commensurability, and habitual momentum. I conclude with implications for research and policy.

Abstract--Due to the high penetration of Distributed Generations (DGs) in the network and the presently involving competition in all electrical energy markets, Virtual Power Plant (VPP) as a new concept has come into view, with the intention of dealing with the increasing number of DGs in the system and handling effectively the competition in the electricity markets. This paper reviews the VPP in terms of components and operation systems. VPP fundamentally is composed of a number of DGs including conventional dispatchable power plants and intermittent generating units along with possible flexible loads and storage units. In this paper, these components are described in an all-inclusive manner, and some of the most important ones are pointed out. In addition, the most important anticipated outcomes of the two types of VPP, Commercial VPP (CVPP) and Technical VPP (TVPP), are presented in detail. Furthermore, the important literature associated with Combined Heat and Power (CHP) based VPP, VPP components and modeling, VPP with Demand Response (DR), VPP bidding strategy, and participation of VPP in electricity markets are briefly classified and discussed in this paper.
