Electrical Impedance Mammography: Screening and Basic Principles

Abstract: Nowadays, screening uses the method of X-ray mammography for the early diagnosis of breast cancer. However, as a screening method, X-ray mammography has its limitations, such as age, periodicity of screening, 'dense' mammary gland and dynamic survey (repeated radiation). In order to overpass these limitations, more advanced alternative methods of breast examination should be used, which would be as effective as the 'golden standard.' Characteristics of electroimpedance diagnostics are given. The aim of screeni… Show more

“…Хотя в проводимых исследованиях основной целью не являлось обнаружение неинвазивных карцином МЖ, при помощи электроимпедансной ММГ были обнаружены DCIS, которые позднее подтвердились морфологически. Данный факт говорит о достаточно высокой чувствительности метода [44][45][46]. К необыденным методикам относят инфракрасное исследование молочных желёз -радиотермометрическую ММГ.…”

“…Holder et al [1] summarized the following areas of application development (non-exhaustive) [1]: taking chest images for heart function and breathing disorders, detection of insufficiency, monitoring of brain function, detection of breast cancer, monitoring of stomach function with magnetic resonance examination combined tomography, and industrial applications such as measurements related to material transport, pharmaceuticals, and chemical process monitoring. Additional examples of applications can be found in the following areas: medical applications mainly in the field of breast [21,22] and lung examinations [23][24][25], living tree examinations [26,27], industrial process monitoring [28,29], and geophysical tests [30,31].…”

“…A low index of electrical conductivity is typical for a breast containing a large number of cellular elements and a high concentration of ions, which corresponds to an acinar-ductal type of breast structure. While, a high electrical conductivity index is typical for a breast containing a large number of fat lobules and connective tissue and a low concentration of ions, which corresponds to an amorphous structure of the breast [55].…”
