“…Cycling performance of Li-Air cells with glyme electrolytes can be correctly evaluated only if a PLE is employed. Sulfolane (in combination with EA co-solvent and LiBF 4 salt) was chosen because of its exceptional oxidative stability [33].…”

“…Many novel solvents with a high anodic potential have been reported, including dinitriles, [177][178][179][180][181][182] sulfones, [183][184][185][186][187][188][189][190][191][192][193][194] and fluorinated solvents [195][196][197][198] . For example, in 1994, gluotaronitrile (GLN) and adioponitrile (ADN) were reported to offer exceptionally high anodic stability at ~8.3 V vs. Li + /Li.…”

“…Electrolytes containing -butyrolactone (BL) or -valerolactone (VL) are very promising because these solvents have a large electrochemical window, a high flame point, a high boiling point, a low vapour pressure and a high conductivity at low temperatures in spite of a moderate permittivity and an absolute viscosity of 1.75 cP at 25°C. Sulfones such as ethylmethylsulfone (EMS), methoxy-methylsulfone (MEMS) or tetramethylsulfone (TMS) are good candidates for the high voltage electrolytes (electric vehicles) as their electrochemical stability in the presence of LiPF 6 remains good up to 5 V vs Li/Li + on platinum electrode [Watanabe et al, 2008;Sun & Angel, 2009;Abouimrane et al, 2009]. Unfortunately, these solvents cannot be used with graphite electrodes as they do not form a stable and protective SEI onto graphite.…”
