Electron-neutral collision cross sections for H2O: I. Complete and consistent set

Abstract: This work proposes a complete and consistent set of cross sections for electron collisions with water molecules to be published in the IST-Lisbon database on LXCat. The set is validated from the comparison between experimental and computed electron swarm parameters. The former are collected from literature while the latter are calculated using a space-homogeneous two-term Boltzmann solver, assuming isotropic scattering in inelastic collisions. Rotational cross sections, based on the Born approximation, are opt… Show more

“…The present data may also be useful for modelling discharges in the field of bioplasmas and that of plasmas in medicine. Finally, from the point of view of basic physics, these data could be of particular interest in the fields of testing or derivation of cross sections, particularly in the case of H 2 O, for which a recent article has stressed the need for more cross section data [31].…”

“…The various processes included in the sets on the IST-Lisbon LXCat sets were described in [39] for CO 2 , in [40] and in [41] for O 2 and O and in [42] for CO. For the computation of the EEDF, elastic collisions, electronic excitation, vibrational excitation and dissociation are included in the sets. The water cross-sections are taken from [43], where a set of complete and consistent H 2 O cross-sections validated against the swarm parameters was made publicly available for the Ąrst time. The CH 4 cross-section are taken from [44].…”

“…However, there is no published comprehensive cross-section set available for C 4 F 7 N, as far as the present authors are aware. Here, comprehensiveness is often defined by two requirements: completeness and consistency [24][25][26][27]. A complete cross-section set accurately represents all electron energy and momentum losses as well as electron number changing processes such as ionization and attachment.…”
