Electronic and electrocatalytic applications based on solution‐processed two‐dimensional platinum diselenide with thickness‐dependent electronic properties

Abstract: Platinum diselenide (PtSe2) has shown great potential as a candidate two‐dimensional (2D) material for broadband photodetectors and electrocatalysts because of its unique properties compared to conventional 2D transition metal dichalcogenides. Synthesis of 2D PtSe2 with controlled layer number is critical for engineering the electronic behavior to be semiconducting or semimetallic for targeted applications. Electrochemical exfoliation has been investigated as a promising approach for mass‐producing in a cost‐e… Show more

“…4f illustrates the overall process of maximizing vacancies by sequentially introducing metal electrodeposition following plasma etching. 48 In the cases where a structure is challenging to etch vertically, vacancies can be formed through a solution process. An unstable and highly oxidizing solution, such as H 2 O 2 , can be employed for this purpose (Fig.…”

“…In contrast, thinner PtSe 2 nanosheets with a small bandgap facilitate the detection of a wide range of light, including NIR wavelengths (Figure 6f). 52 Another approach for detecting NIR wavelengths based on TMDCs is hierarchical nanostructuring. Hierarchical nanoscale wrinkles, including first to third generations, are generated based on the solution-processed MoS 2 film with their corresponding wrinkle amplitudes (A G1 −A G3 ) and wavelengths (λ G1 ∼ λ G3 ) (Figure 6g).…”

“…Various techniques have been reported for the synthesis of atomically thin TMDCs. These techniques include chemical vapor deposition (CVD) , as a bottom-up approach, whereas micromechanical exfoliation , and solution-based processing ,, have been used as top-down approaches (Figure a–c). Recent studies have focused on satisfying both the scalability and the material quality requirements for use in electronics.…”
