Electrospun sillenite Bi12MO20 (M = Ti, Ge, Si) nanofibers: general synthesis, band structure, and photocatalytic activity

Abstract: Sillenite Bi12MO20 (M = Ti, Ge, Si) nanofibers have been fabricated through a facile electrospinning route for photocatalytic applications. Uniform Bi12MO20 (M = Ti, Ge, Si) nanofibers with diameters of 100-200 nm and lengths of up to several millimeters can be readily obtained by thermally treating the electrospun precursors. The photocatalytic activities of these nanofibers for degradation of rhodamine B (RhB) were explored under UV-visible light. The band structure and the degradation mechanisms were also d… Show more

“…The intensity and shape of the peaks indicate that the BFO product is highly crystallized. [25][26][27][28][29][30] The vibration spectra of the as-prepared BFO product were further assessed by Raman and FT-IR spectroscopy. More detailed surface composition and valence of some elements in the BFO sample was checked by XPS ( Fig.…”

“…The repulsive force due to existence of lone pair in the lattices can apply to other bonding schemes generally causing a heavy distortion of the structure. Bi 3+ -containing oxides have been widely developed for potential visible light active photocatalysts due to the peculiar electronic structure in these materials such as BiVO 4 [13], Bi 2 O 3 [14], Bi 2 WO 6 [15], Bi 2 MoO 6 [16], Bi 20 TiO 32 [17], Bi 12 MO 20 (M = Ti, Ge, Si) [18], and so on. Among them BiVO 4 -based photocatalysts have been intensively reported [11,13,[19][20][21][22][23][24] which possess optical absorption and photocatalytic activities.…”
